A forest fire broke out around 2:00 PM near Cuestas del Cedacero, between the towns of Cartagena and La Azohía, affecting scrubland adjacent to the RM-E22 road connecting Cartagena with Isla Plana.
The fire forced the closure of this heavily trafficked road during the summer season to allow emergency crews better access and to ensure public safety. The closure caused traffic jams near Torre Nicolás Pérez.
More than one hundred responders took part in firefighting efforts, including six teams from Cartagena Firefighters with four trucks, five ground forestry brigades, and three helicopter transport brigades. Civil Guard, local police, and civil protection units from Cartagena also assisted.
Regarding aerial support, the Directorate General of Citizen Security and Emergencies deployed three helicopters: two for fire suppression and a third for information gathering and flight operation control.
Fire Stabilised with No Threat to People or Property
By approximately 8:18 PM, firefighters had successfully controlled the fire and began cooling operations to prevent flare-ups. According to official sources from emergency services and the Plan Infomur, no infrastructure was damaged, no external assistance beyond the autonomous community was needed, and there was no risk to residents or assets.
