The city of Cartagena is preparing for an Easter of intense tourist activity and strong performance in the hospitality sector. According to HOSTECAR, restaurant occupancy rates are expected to reach between 80% and 90%, particularly during the key dates from 17 to 20 April.

Businesses located in the historic centre and around the processional routes are anticipating a high influx of both locals and visitors. More than 40% of establishments have already recorded an increase in bookings compared to the previous year.

Adding to this, 13 cruise ships are scheduled to dock at the Port of Cartagena during this period, providing an additional boost to tourist numbers.

Meanwhile, the Department of Tourism, through the Murcia Region Institute of Tourism (Itrem), has launched 14 promotional campaigns to attract visitors throughout the year. These campaigns, aimed at both national and international audiences, seek to reduce seasonality and strengthen the image of Easter as a major cultural attraction.

Key actions include partnerships with operators such as TUI Belgium, EasyJet Holidays, Wala, and platforms like Travelzoo, Destinia, and Atrápalo. Campaigns promoting active tourism, golf, and health and wellness have also been developed, along with efforts to improve air connectivity with cities like Bilbao, Asturias, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife.

These initiatives are part of the 2022–2032 Strategic Tourism Plan, aiming to position the Murcia Region as an attractive destination year-round.
