29-year-old woman critically injured after car rollover in Cartagena

A 29-year-old woman was seriously injured this morning after her car left the road and rolled over on the AP-7 motorway at kilometre 797, heading towards Almería, near Los Urrutias in the municipality of Cartagena. The Emergency Coordination Centre received multiple calls at 09:37 reporting a vehicle overturned in the verge with a person trapped inside.
Rescue operation
Patrols from the Guardia Civil, firefighters from the local fire and rescue service of the Ayuntamiento de Cartagena, and an Emergency Mobile Unit with medical teams from the Regional Emergency Management 061 responded to the scene. Firefighters freed the driver who had been trapped in the vehicle.
After being extricated, the woman was stabilised by medical personnel on site and transported in a serious condition to Los Arcos del Mar Menor Hospital in San Javier, where she remains with serious injuries.
The circumstances that led the car to leave the road and overturn have not been specified. The Guardia Civil will investigate the incident to determine contributing factors such as speed, weather or mechanical failure.
The incident prompted the mobilisation of emergency resources and may have caused temporary traffic disruption while rescue teams worked and the carriageway was made safe.
